SERVE AT SOMIS CHURCH

At Somis Church, serving isn’t about filling roles—it’s about loving people in tangible ways.
Every week, we gather to worship Jesus, share life together, and practice the way of love He teaches us. Serving is one of the primary ways that love becomes visible. Some roles support the practical life of the church. Some help people feel known and welcomed. Others involve walking with people as they grow in their life with Jesus.

We encourage people to spend their first six months attending regularly—getting to know others and experiencing the culture and rhythms of the church—before stepping into a serving role.

All of it matters. All of it forms us.

HOW CAN I SERVE?

LEAD ROLES:
Lead Roles involve walking with others in a more intentional way. These roles carry responsibility for spiritual care, guidance, and formation. Leadership at Somis is not about position—it’s about presence, humility, and faithfulness.

Onboarding Time: Typically 6–12 months
This process includes conversation, discernment, training, and shared life to ensure readiness and alignment.

WHERE CAN I SERVE?

SOMIS KIDS

CONNECT + LEAD ROLES
Somis Kids partners with parents to point infants through fifth graders to Jesus.
We create spaces that are safe, joyful, and rooted in grace.

Connect Roles
• Classroom assistants
• Helping kids feel safe, known, and welcomed
• Supporting teachers during lessons and activities
Onboarding Time: 3–6 months

Lead Roles
• Classroom teachers
• Teaching Scripture and prayer
• Modeling the way of Jesus through patience and care
Onboarding Time: 6–12 months

SOMIS YOUTH

CONNECT + LEAD ROLES
Somis Youth exists to share and show the love of Jesus with middle and high school students. We serve so that the next generation might experience renewal in their faith, depth in following Jesus, and a growing desire to live that faith out. Teenagers don’t need perfect leaders. They need adults who keep showing up.

• Showing up consistently on youth nights
• Building relationships through listening and presence
• Helping create a safe and welcoming environment

Lead Roles
• Leading small groups
• Teaching Scripture
• Walking with students through questions, doubts, and growth

HOSPITALITY TEAM

CONNECT ROLES
The Hospitality Team helps set the tone of welcome before the service begins.
Hospitality at Somis isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence.

This team:
• Arrives early on Sundays
• Brews and serves coffee
• Sets up and maintains the coffee station
• Creates a warm, simple gathering space

Greeters are often the first people someone encounters at Somis.
This team:
• Welcomes people as they arrive
• Helps direct them to kids’ areas, restrooms, and seating
• Offers warmth, attentiveness, and joy

Ushers help create a calm, distraction-free environment for worship.
This team:
• Helps people find seats
• Answers practical questions
• Assists with communion once a month

The Tech Team supports worship by helping remove unnecessary barriers.
This team:
• Runs slides, lyrics, Scripture, and announcements
• Supports clarity and flow during services

The Worship Team uses music to help create space for the church to encounter God.
This team:
• Leads congregational worship
• Serves the church, not the spotlight
• Approaches worship as prayer, not performance

The Safety Team helps ensure Somis is a place where people feel secure and cared for.
This team:
• Maintains awareness during gatherings
• Responds calmly to unexpected situations
• Supports families, kids, and volunteers

The Through It All Team offers tangible care during difficult seasons.
This includes:
• Regular check-ins (texts, calls, cards, meals)
• Walking with people through extended hardships
• Coordinating Meal Train support

The Prayer Team serves by standing with people before God. Prayer at Somis is slow, reverent, and rooted in trust.
This team:
• Prays with people during and after services
• Listens with care and confidentiality
• Intercedes throughout the week
